Job Description:
Digital Studies of Language, Culture, and History at the
University of Chicago invites applications for part-time Lecturers
during the 2025-26 academic year. The selected candidate will have
part-time teaching opportunities for courses that count toward the
Master of Arts in Digital Studies of Language, Culture, and
History, can be applied to the Digital Studies minor for
undergraduates in the College, or to the Digital Studies
certificate for PhD students. Possible courses include but are not
limited to: programming, statistics, data management, data
publication, and the use of large language models in the Humanities
and qualitative Social Sciences. Responsibilities include preparing
and teaching lecture- and/or workshop-style courses, holding
regularly scheduled office hours, and preparing and grading of
assignments and testing materials. Depending on the curricular
needs of the program, the successful candidate may teach between
one and four courses per academic year. Salary Range or Pay Grade:
The terms and conditions of employment for this position are
covered by a collective bargaining agreement between the University
and Service Employees International Union. The per-course salary
for academic year 2025-26 will be at least $8,883. This position is
not benefits eligible. Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree or
equivalent; a PhD is preferred. Applicants must have professional
experience in a related field and/or at least the equivalent of one
year of experience teaching at the university or post-secondary
level. Expertise in web publication and demonstrated proficiency
across programming languages is also preferred.
