better?Job Description The Advanced Practice Nurse reflects the
mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization's

relevant policies, procedures, guidelines, and all other regulatory
and accreditation standards. This Stroke APRN will provide support
and coverage to the stroke service at CDH's Comprehensive Stroke
Center; this will be 100% inpatient. Schedule: 12 hour Shifts
(7:00pm-7:00am) two times per week over a 7 day week schedule
Weekend rotations Training for position will be over day time hours
Comprehensive Stroke Program information The Mission of the CDH
Stroke and Neurovascular Program is to reduce death and disability
as a result of stroke by : Providing rapid assessment and
state-of-the-art treatment by a team of specially trained
clinicians Educating patients and families on risk reduction and
recovery to improve quality of life Conducting high quality
scientific research to find improved treatments for stroke,
increase treatment options, and to further improve patient outcomes
Educating and raising awareness among area providers and community
residents so that effective treatment can be delivered promptly
Provides care based on AHA/ASA recommendations: Guidelines for the
Early Management of Patients with Acute Ischemic Stroke Guidelines
for the Management of Spontaneous Intracerebral Hemorrhage
Guidelines for the Management of Aneurysmal Subarachnoid Hemorrhage
Guidelines for Prevention of Stroke in Patients with Stroke or
Transient Ischemic Attack Additional info about our stroke program:
NeuroICU – 12 dedicated neuroICU beds; neurocritical care team with
24/7 intensivist coverage Neuro stepdown – 24 dedicated neuro
stepdown beds Dedicated rapid response team for stroke with 24/7
nursing coverage Robust neuro interventional program with
mechanical thrombectomy and other neurovascular treatment
capabilities (aneurysm coiling, AVM embolization, MMA embolization)
– dedicated APP coverage Neuro surgery program with neurovascular
surgical capabilities (aneurysm clipping, EC-IC bypass, AVM
resection) – dedicated APP coverage A Licensed Advanced Practice
Nurse is a registered nurse (RN) and therefore, can perform all
duties that are considered routine duties of a RN. In addition, a
Licensed Advanced Practice Nurse holds a masters or doctoral degree
in a specialized area of nursing. The Licensed Advanced Practice
Nurse functions autonomously and collaborates with other health
professionals to provide high quality, cost effective advanced
nursing care to patients, manage health care systems and influence
health care decision-making through expert clinical reasoning,
research and theory-based practice. Responsibilities: Provides
direct care to assigned patients as needed which demonstrates
clinical expertise and advanced knowledge. Diagnoses and manages
acute and chronic health problems within specialty area of
practice. Collaborates with physicians and other health care
professionals in area of clinical expertise. Consults with
physicians and other professionals in areas of clinical expertise.
Develops educational systems and strategies for teaching patients,
families and staff on topics related to area of expertise. Mentors
graduate nursing students in aspects of advanced nursing practice.
Actively participates in and/or conducts research pertinent to area
of expertise. Clinical : Conducts comprehensive assessments of
patients health status by taking health histories and performing
advanced physical examinations in specialty area. Provides direct
clinical care to assigned patients as needed. Orders and interprets
laboratory and diagnostic tests to establish diagnoses and develop
a comprehensive treatment plan. Prescribes medications, therapies,
interventions and procedures according to clinical privileges.
Documents in the medical record all care provided and/or procedures
performed for which the Advanced Practice Nurse is responsible.
Collaborates with all members of the multidisciplinary team to
develop and direct an individualized and comprehensive treatment
plan. Coordinates the discharge planning process with patients,
families and all members of the multidisciplinary team. Consults
with other specialties and disciplines as appropriate to meet all
health care needs of patients. Acts as Consultant to other
disciplines in specific areas of expertise.
Leadership/Organization: Advocates for patients, families, nursing
staff and other members of the healthcare community. Maintains
advanced certification and continuing education as required by the
Illinois Department of Professional Regulation and Advanced Nursing
Practice Act. Assumes a leadership role in professional activities
and organizations. Serves as a patient advocate and role models
clinical practice that reflects "Patients First" philosophy.
Assists in the development of policies and procedures in clinical
area of expertise to establish standards for nursing practice.
Participates in department and hospital committees and task forces
to facilitate changes and develop processes to improve patient care
utilizing evidenced based practice guidelines. Consults with
nursing and hospital leadership (management) in the identification,
evaluation and problem solving of clinical system and process
issues. Collaborates with NM leadership teams to develop, implement
and evaluate strategic plans for quality improvement initiatives.
Collaborates with physicians to lead changes in clinical practice.
Collaborates with leaders in academic, political and financial
institutions to promote health care reform. Serves as a consultant
to the department of nursing in developing strategies for advancing
nursing practice and leadership opportunities for nursing staff and
APNs. Education : Develops and provides comprehensive teaching
strategies for patients and their families. Consults with patients
and families regarding health care needs, health promotion, health
management and disease prevention strategies. Develops and
participates in programs to meet educational needs of nursing staff
and other healthcare professionals related to clinical area of
expertise. Serves as a role model and preceptor for undergraduate
and graduate nursing students. Provides formal and informal
education to both internal and external groups pertinent to area of
expertise. Provides formal and informal educational programs to
nursing staff graduate students and other healthcare professionals
pertinent to area of expertise. Collaborates with academic
institutions to provide and promote clinical learning experiences
and educational programs for APNs, PAs, physicians in training and

AdvancedPracticeRegisteredNurse Qualifications Required: Current
license as a Registered Nurse in the State of Illinois; Current
license as an Advanced Practice Nurse in the State of Illinois.
Certification as an Advanced Practice Nurse by a national
certifying body as approved by the Illinois Department of
Regulation APN Board. Acute care certification required for APRNs
(inpatient experience as an NP will be considered in lieu of acute
care certification) Written collaborative agreement with a
collaborating physician and once licensed may apply for a mid-level
practitioner controlled substance license and DEA number.
Privileged and credentialed through the NMH Medical Staff Office
(MSO). Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation recognition (healthcare
provider level). Masters degree from an accredited school/college
