The Department Manager shall assign work and provide support and guidance to team members. The Department Manager will ensure that the services and deliverables provided by their department will meet Valdes quality standards as well as relevant project-specific client requirements. The Department Manager is responsible for monitoring work load within their department and proactively managing assignments so that deliverables are completed in accordance with the approved department budget and established milestone date(s). As schedules allow, may serve as department engineer on larger projects. Responsible for managing a staff up to 30 people. Expected to handle day-to-day output of the collective team as well as take on larger company initiatives simultaneously. Overview Bears ultimate responsibility to ensure department's performance on all department's projects, namely executing scope within the defined budget and schedule allocated for each projectExtensive knowledge within the Piping and Plant layout discipline with the capability and initiative to drive the following tasks with your staff: Plan, facilitate, or conduct 3D model design reviewsPerform difficult and complex design calculationsProvide 2D or 3D design documents as required per project "list of deliverables"Check design documents for quality and accuracyProvide information for inter-discipline coordinationDocument and eliminate the causes of internal reworkParticipate in project coordination / client meetingsProvide progress reports as requested by project manager Ownership of piping projects including quality, budget and scheduleDevelop piping construction scope of work documentDevelop and maintain project drawing listSchedules work for personnel assigned to projectEstimating project manpower requirements Improve department work flow processDevelop and /or improve department standards, including templates and design guidesGenerate "Engineering Change Notice "before the start of all out of scope work Develop and/or maintain technical and administrative processes, tools and guidelines pertaining to specific engineering department Direct the activities of engineers, designers, and other support staff in the planning, scheduling, design, and execution of projects Monitor and maintain department productivity and budgets Work with other department managers to resolve personnel issues and coordination prior to escalating to Manager of Engineering or above if necessary Ensure Valdes and Client quality standards are met Implement, administer, and enforce all corporate policies and procedures within the department Provide support to Business Development and Project Management, as needed (proposals, business development activities, client contacts and presentations) Perform the technical capabilities are in line with that of a Principal Engineer Recruit, hire, and train personnel necessary to ensure the department is staffed with an appropriate balance of personnel needed to effectively execute work and meet project schedules Identifying and developing continuous improvement initiatives within the department Responsible for personnel issues within the department and escalating to upper management or Human Resources as required Responsible for staff assessments and all performance appraisals and salary reviews for department personnel All other duties as assigned People Skills: Rapidly identifies key issues in a complex situation and works to alleviate issues for his/her team.
