The Middle/High School English/History Teacher is responsible for
equipping students to be the Christ-like leaders the world needs
today by becoming skilled readers, writers, listeners, and
speakers. Utilizing a classically inspired approach and an
understanding of diverse cultures, the teacher will instruct
students in literature, rhetoric, language, and civics while
facilitating a Christ-centered classroom environment. The
successful candidate will foster a love for inquiry and truth,
helping students see God’s hand throughout stories and history
while embodying the “Warrior Way” in all interactions.
Duties/Responsibilities: Maintain a positive, Christ-centered
climate using “Warrior Way” Design and deliver engaging, effective
lessons that challenge students to think critically about texts.
Facilitate lessons with approved curriculum and Common Core State
Standards for literacy and Wisconsin Standards for Social Studies
Integrate Biblical principles into instruction; lead students in
daily prayer and facilitate discussions on faith and ethics. Tailor
teaching methods to accommodate various learning styles and reading
levels. Maintain an accurate online grade book and provide timely,
constructive feedback on student essays, projects, and exams. Build
relationships with students in homeroom and communicate school
policies to students effectively. Communicate regularly and
professionally with parents and staff regarding student academic
progress and social-emotional development. Participate in faculty
meetings, professional development, and school-wide events to
strengthen the Eastbrook community. Requirements: Effective verbal
and written communication skills Expert knowledge of teaching
writing and the English language. Expert knowledge of literary
periods, figures, and authors as well as contemporary authors.
Analytical thinking skills to help students dissect and discuss
complex texts and viewpoints, including historical perspectives and
current events. Intentional focus on character development and the
spiritual formation of adolescents. Professional interpersonal
skills used to navigate parent-teacher partnerships and student
behavioral needs. Thorough organizational skills, particularly in
lesson planning and maintaining student records. Productive time
management skills to balance grading, planning, and extracurricular
duties. Relational leadership style that earns the respect and
trust of students. Composed demeanor when managing a lively
classroom environment or student conflicts. Technically competent
with educational technology and student information systems.
Trustworthy in handling sensitive student data and family
confidentialities. Spiritual Requirements: Unreserved acceptance of
Eastbrook Academy’s Statement of Faith and a strong, clear
Christian testimony. Active membership in good standing within a
Christian church community. Education and Experience: Bachelor’s
degree (B.A.) in History, Secondary Education, or a related field
required. Two or more years of teaching experience at the middle or
high school level is preferred. Familiarity with classical
education methods or a liberal arts background is highly desirable.
Physical Requirements: Prolonged periods of standing and walking
throughout the classroom. Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at
times.
